To continue where I left off on yesterday's post.............

Here are some new resolutions for this year. These are to be added to the ones I'm carrying over from next year.

I notice that most of my resolutions can be broken down into three major groups: Finances, Health/Fitness/Diet, and Clutter Reduction.

* Donate 1% of my net income to worthwhile charitable organizations

This has been a publicly unstated goal of mine. As much as I gripe about what I don't have, I should be thankful of what I do have. I ought to share a small portion of what I have with those who are less fortunate than myself. If I don't, it's likely that I would be one of these have-nots in the future.

* Get control of my bill-paying and financial record-keeping

I admit I was very lax about this in '03. I missed paying several bills because they were misplaced, and I paid more late fees than I care to admit or count. I also did a poor job of entering every expense into Quicken.

* Bring my lunch to work at least 1 or two times a week

This should save me a little bit of money -- about $5-10 -- and it will also help with the problem of having too many leftovers in the fridge. In my new place of work, there's a cafeteria that's a short walk away from me, but I've heard the food quality isn't the best.
Let's hope the guard at the gate doesn't demand I open my lunch box to them every time.

* Go through and discard financial records over 5 years old

5 years is long enough to be keeping receipts and handwritten notes. I should keep 1999's records through the end of this year, but I should get rid of anything from 1998 or earlier. I do plan to keep some important records, though -- tax returns, receipts for major purchases, credit card statements (which I should scan), and old Quicken files. I plan to make good use of my paper shredder for the records I'm discarding.

* Keep the house clean and free of clutter

I have a little one running about. I need to keeps the halls and stairs clean of clutter, lest one of us trips over someting and injures ourselves. Yes, I realize a clean dining room table in an open invitation for the cats to hop up onto the table. But it would be nice to have someone over and not worry about the mess.

And now, some predictions. I'm no psychic, and I don't really care if any of these come true.

1) Michael Jackson will be found guilty of child molestation charges, and will be killed in prison via a fight with other inmates.
2) Ronald Reagan will pass away.
3) The Bush administration will announce that Osama bin Laden has been captured and killed.........in the last week of October, one week before the elections.
4) Pope John Paul II will survive one more year. No black smoke or white smoke until 2005.
5) Peter Jackson will win the Oscar for Best Director this year. 5a) ROTK will be nominated, but will not win.
6) Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez will get married after all.

Taking lunch to work is a great idea. $10 per week is $40 per month. Or an extra dinner out. Or 2 DVD's. or more books. Or many other things.
