My "mad money" purchase for this month was the last upgrade for my laptop computer for the foreseeable future.

On EBay, I saw some 256Mb memory modules that were advertised to fit my laptop computer. After plunking down the money and waiting a few days for it to arrive, I tested the memory with the version of Memtest86+ that was installed on my laptop when I installed Ubuntu 8.04. The first module passed with flying colors. The second module....not so good. After 10 minutes of testing, it racked up over 100,000 errors. I emailed the vendor, double-checked the return policy, and sent the defective memory back to the vendor for a replacement. A few days later, the replacement memory arrived. This module was tested and passed flawlessly. And I gave positive feedback to the vendor for a prompt and hassle-free resolution.

My laptop is now happily maxed out at 512 Mb of RAM. And I recommend Memtest86+ to anyone contemplating a memory purchase.
