A follow-up to my last post. It appears that I started a tangent about scented vs. unscented personal hygiene products.

I personally like stuff that's lightly scented. I like the Nivea for Men product line. It's a brand name I recognize for high-quality skin care. And their aftershave balm has a nice light scent. Some women I know like it a lot.

As for colognes, I hardly use them these days. But when I do, there's Eddie Bauer "Ebtek" (for the spring and summer) and Abercrombie & Fitch "Woods" (for the fall and winter). Canoe is good too.

I tend to turn away from stuff that's too heavily scented or overpowering. There are some Calvin Klein colognes -- Obsession in particular -- that just wrinkle my nose.

I used to like Old Spice. Dad used it. How many men use Old Spice because their fathers used it? And do women like that scent as much as the ads say?

It's been said that there is a strong link between scent and memory. I remember my high school sweetheart using her mom's Windsong on a couple of dates we were on.

And then there is the story of Owen. He was a student from Nigeria whom I used to work with in college. He used to drench himself with Jovan Sex Appeal cologne. I don't know why. Maybe he thought the more he used, the more women would find him attractive. Ugh.

I don't want to smell people's colognes or perfumes from 10 feet away. That's excessive. If you're up close and personal -- or even intimate -- with me, that's the time I wouldn't mind a nice scent.

I like Old Spice. It reminds me of my father. Tom isn't much for scents. Since he wears a beard he doesn't do aftershave, and he has never been much for cologne.

Kyle and Kris both like Axe products, mostly the body wash. That doesn't leave an overpowering scent.

Old Spice

Heck, everyone uses Old Spice. It's ubiquitous. ;)

I like Old Spice, but would rather leave the choice of scent up to the individual - if it works for that person, it works for me. I'm also a fan of the natural scent a man has, just the muskiness of his skin. I've got a super sensitive nose and do equate scents with memories, especially of men.

Gawds, I sound like such a slut, LOL!!!!

A lady I know chose to wear sugar cookie and/or vanilla scented products "because it reminds him of food and makes him want to eat me". I LMAO! The other day, I decided I wanted to smell like food, so I grabbed a pear-scented deoderant (I find pear less offensive than most of the fruit flavors). The first person to hug me while I was wearing it, inhaled and said, "Mmmm fruity."

Such are the games we adults play :) -H...

For myself on myself, I prefer true floral scents, or a floral & spice mixture. I love Old Spice, & Avon's Black Suede , but not on every man. I loathe musk colognes, Perfume or after shaves, on anyone and everyone. It really is a nasty scent on far more people than it will ever be good on.
If a person wants a musk, stick to their own natural body scents, far sexier, imo.

For me, scent aids in setting moods more than memories. If someone smells like a fruit salad, or baked goods, I'll get hungry all right, but not for them. I like Axe on my son, but not on one of my best friends. (told him so too) Perfumes, aftershaves, & colognes need to be chosen according to what works with a person's personal body chemistry, life style, & personality. They should never be bought & used simply because they are what is most popular, or the latest thing, or any stupid reason like that. They are supposed to be a part of who we are and actually want others to notice about us.

At the same time, I agree they never should be part of Bio war fare. If I can smell you from beyond 1&1/2 feet away, you have way to much on, & need to learn how to properly apply it.
