But seriously....this picture came from an article in the April 2008 issue of IEEE Spectrum which discusses the stockpiling of obsolete electronics.
Oh well. Better to have an organized warehouse filled with old electronics than a disorganized landfill with the same old electronics.

Date: 2011-04-23 08:24 pm (UTC)There are laws in place that have avoided this issue in the automotive parts industry: Cars can't be sold in the U.S. unless measures are taken to insure that the parts for those models will be available for at least 10 years, even if the original manufacturer goes belly-up and the parts have to come from someone else.
Is the U.S. military forgetting to specify this sort of thing in its electronic contracts any more, or did it lose the clout to enforce them?
