For those of you leaving LJ.....

It seems that less and less people are on LiveJournal these days, leaving it for the so-called greener pastures of Facebook, Twitter, Google+, et al.
Are blogs passe? To be replaced with quick "sound bites" of a one-sentence or 140-character post?
I know Facebook has a Notes feature. But I hardly use it. Instead, my long, thought-out posts go here on LJ. But I'll admit, most of my recent posts have been on Facebook.
So, what can an LJ user do to preserve his or her posts?
infobits posed this question a few days ago.
I know of two such programs, and have used them. It's probably time for me to get current.
LJBook can create a PDF file of your posts, from a specified range of dates to the entire journal, if you so desire.

LJArchive enables you to store an offline copy of your journal for reference and posterity.

Date: 2011-10-30 06:34 am (UTC)A lot of people seem to use Facebook. I won't use FB except as a last resort. I'm leery of their repeated user-unfriendly policy revisions. I was hoping Google+ would fix a lot of the reasons I don't use FB, but it turns out that they have worse problems, as evidenced by their "Real names only" policy.
LJ has its problems but at least it's a known quantity.

Must try ljbook. I am not eager to leave, but I like to save my stuff.

Date: 2011-10-30 07:05 pm (UTC)Facebook? UGH.
Date: 2011-10-31 04:41 am (UTC)Actually Jim most of my stuff goes on my main blog at http://madhatter.ca which has hit about 1,000,000 words. I'm a talkative guy, and I've had articles translated into Russian, Spanish, and I think the third one was Greek.
Livejournal is for personal stuff.
My blog is more political/business related. I use both.
Facebook I would quite happily dump, but it's my only way to keep on touch with certain people.
Oh well...

Date: 2011-11-02 12:55 am (UTC)I resisted signing on to Facebook until August of '09, when I had several outstanding invites from several friends. And I finally broke down and started my account there.
Yeah, some of Facebook's so-called features and policies drive me nuts. Like rolling out new changes unannounced and undocumented. Or not offering a way to edit posts. And their cavalier attitude towards user security, making "Facebook security" an oxymoron.
Ah well. With Facebook, you get what you pay for.
Facebook=Oxymoron
Date: 2011-11-02 03:00 am (UTC)You got that right.
But since I'm now trying to start a publishing company, and I'm playing with politics I have to be public. So my Facebook settings let nearly anyone look at me.
Oh well...
PS: I have extra bandwidth...
