poltr1I think it's only fair that I make the same list for the place I'm in now. As much as I'd like to stay here, that might not be an option.
And now, here's the list for Dayton, Ohio.
1) Cincinnati-style chili (Skyline beats Gold Star hands down)
2) Books & Co. (was an independednt bookstore, now owned by Books-A-Million but still has the local charm)
3) Half Price Books (okay, it's a chain, but they have them here in town!)
4) Being within an 8-hour drive of nearly every place I want to go
5) Jersey Mike's Subs (another chain but they have the best East Coast style subs around)
6) The local history of inventors and their inventions (it's not just the home of the Wright Brothers)
7) Summer concerts at the Fraze Pavilion
8) The commercials for Hidy Honda (Campy as all hell but they make me laugh)
9) The day trips to Yellow Springs (the Berkeley of the Midwest)
10) The trips to Young's Dairy
11) Ritter's Frozen Custard
12) Canoeing down the Little Miami River
13) The Ohio Renaissance Festival
14) Day or weekend trips to Columbus, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis
15) Camping in Hueston Woods State Park
16) Caesar's Creek State Park
17) Sitting by the shore of Caesar's Creek Lake
18) The abundance of good Chinese restaurants (North China, China Cottage, China Dynasty)
19) University of Dayton's annual Christmas on Campus celebration (they're a Marianist school; they can do things like this)
20) The Hocking Hills region in southeast Ohio (about a 2-3 hour drive away)
21) Penn Station (another chain, based in Cincy, but great steak hoagies!)
22) The Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. (and their brewed-on-premises goods)
23) Watching F-16s fly in formation, and the occasional lone C-141
24) All the fall festivals that each town has
25) The friends and acquaintances I'd leave behind here
