On weekdays, it's the same old routine for me. Get up. Go to work. Work for a few hours. Grab lunch. Work a few more hours. Go home. Grab dinner. Vegetate for a few hours; maybe read or watch TV. Check email, Blatherings, and LJ. Water the flowers. Go to bed.

It's been too hot outside, and I don't really have a backyard to speak of. (Unless you count a 12' x 12' slab of concrete surrounded on three sides by my condo building and the fourth side has a wooden fence.) Either that or I've become spiled by air conditioning.

Once again, the local air pollution control agency has sounded a "smog alert" for the next few days, only becuase the high temperature will be above 90. Why don't they call it a "ground-level ozone alert" instead? As far as I'm concerned, smog is smoke and fog. Not ground-level ozone.

I don't think to do anything on the weeknights because there's only 4 hours of time in the evening between the time I come home and the time I go to bed. That's not enough time to do stuff that either needs to be done or that I want to do. Which is a shame, because there's lots to be done.

That's why I love the weekends. I have two days to do what I want! Saturday mornings I'll usually sleep in, unless I have errands to run and tasks to do. Sunday mornings I'll go out on the patio, sit in an outdoor chair, and read newspapers and/or magazines for two hours. That time is incredibly quiet and relaxing.

The highlight of today? I was a witness to a head-on collision on the way home. I only saw the collision from when the cars "bounced" (i.e. the moment of impact) at a 4-way intersection; I didn't see what led up to it. I was about 200 feet behind them. I think one person as trying to turn, and another person was going forward. And I guess someone didn't see the other. I pulled up, saw both cars, pulled over to the side of the road, pulled out the cell phone, and called 911. One man looked like he had some head trauma. The other appeared to be OK; his air bag went off and he walked out of the car. Soon the local sherriff's deputy was on the scene, followed by local police, fire, and EMS squads. I hope everyone involved will be all right.

How did I spend my summer evenings while I was growing up? Hanging out at home, or with friends. While I was in college, I had a student assistant job, and remember working some nights. I also hung out at my fraternity house. Now I spend them at home, with the wife and cats.
