(Still working on my Veterans' Day tribute post. Had an all-day career counseling session yesterday, and a doctor's appointment that evening.)
From
autographedcat and
kitanzi, and a host of others. I think I posted this one a few months ago -- I just checked my back entries and sure enough, I did -- but I've added some LJ-friends since then.
I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about.
Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.
Also, if you want me to interview you (3 questions) then mention that in your reply.
(Note: "Magic Phrases" or posts that contain them will be screened out.)

Lay the three questions on me.

Date: 2004-11-12 07:26 am (UTC)Favorite convention memory? There are several. And it's moments like these that make a con for me.
Buffalo Who '85: Sitting with Ian Marter in the con suite, sipping Heinekens, and watching "Terror of the Zygons" while Ian's making behind-the-scenes commentary.
Visions '95: Luncheon with Mira Furlan and briefly discussing Eastern European politics after she found out I was from Dayton.
Marcon '92?: Hearing Michael Longcor's "Rhinotileximania", watching
The infamous OVFF where we got kicked out of function space becuase we were being too loud, only to reconvene in the hotel lobby, and played LOUD!
OVFF 20: The late-night chats in the con suite with
And now, your questions.
1) Who are you biggest musical influences?
2) How did you first get involved in music?
3) What are your favorite convention memories?

Date: 2004-11-12 07:41 am (UTC)At this point in my life, the ideal job for me would best be called "artist-in-residence". I'd have a stipend or salary, no set work schedule, no deadlines, and I'd be cranking out both products and ideas. Or a job at either a NASA facility or government laboratory. In any case, I'd want something that gives me both "the office" and "the lab".
And now, your questions:
1) How long have you been in fandom?
2) What are your favorite convention memories?
3) What are your favorite foods to eat?

Date: 2004-11-12 04:25 pm (UTC)2) There are so many! Favorite two - the weekend ACat and I realized that our respective interests were requited, and going to Finale with ACat and Maedbh7 at Boskone this year. Favorite un-memory would be the one and only time I went up to do a one shot by my very own self. I remember getting on the stage, I remember walking back to my seat. I cannot for the life of me remember singing a note, though people complimented me on both the song and the singing.
3) Oh dear... whole list? There are too many, which is a problem. Chocolate, pizza and ice cream certainly lead the list. If I could have my 18 year old metabolism and my 35 year old brain, I'd be a very happy kit!

Date: 2004-11-12 10:51 am (UTC)In the fall of 1979, I went to an evening session at the now-defunct Tagg's Music in Buffalo NY (right across the street from the UB Main Street Campus). They were giving a presentation and demonstration of the Moog Music product line, focusing on the newly-released Micromoog. There were six Micromoogs on tables, where we got to take them out for a "test drive".
"Wow!", I thought. "These were cool! I wanna get one of these!" But they weren't within the reach of my parents' budget. I did, however, grab product literature that they had available.
How/when I got my first synth: In the fall of 1983, I saw an ad for a used Minimoog, and the seller was asking $400 for it. (In 1980, a new one could be had for $2000). My father and I drove out to see it. The seller was a music teacher who hadn't been using it recently. I asked my dad, "Can we take it home? Please?", and my dad agreed.
My Mini has been modified once, to add a CV Out jack to drive other synths with the Mini keyboard. One more mod is planned to add the Lintronics MIDI board which will give the Mini some MIDI I/O.
There's more synth history here, from a past LJ entry: "My Analog Days".
