You have been warned. Here there be spoilers.

Just finished HP&tHBP this evening.

I'm feeling kind of bummed.

I kind of suspected Dumbledore would shuffle off the mortal coil in this one. I thought he was going to die at the end of book 5. But I was wrong.

I wasn't suspecting Snape to be the half-blood Prince. He hid his lineage well. Nor did I expect him to be the one to off the big D. I thought You-Know-Who was gonna do it.

And I wonder if Harry is going to be able to find -- or want to find -- that annotated potions book again.

And in a way, the setup mirrors the classic "Hero's Journey" tale: Boy finds mentor. Boy loses mentor. Boy goes off to kick some serious ass. Boy comes back.

I am a reader of fan-fiction of the HarryPotterverse and have been a Hermione/Snape shipper since I found the whole fanfic thing.... HBP totally threw my groove. Some of the fanfic writers have, thankfully, chosen to take the tack that Dumbledore TOLD Snape to kill him in order to prevent Draco's permanent downfall into the Dark. Others have said that it was the curse on Marvolo's ring that did it and Snape merely made it LOOK like he'd done him in. *sigh* I guess we will find out the truth (if ever) in a couple of years when Ms. Rowling trots out book 7. I'm rather upset about the whole thing. I really LIKED that old man. But, I'll be getting book 7 the day it comes out in hopes of seeing Snape redeemed
