Hooked on su doku......

poltr1Last week, I hit one of the local bookstores, looking for discount-rack computer books. I can sometimes find some great deals on books that are one or two versions old. As I headed toward the register, I passed a display for several books for a new type of puzzle: su doku (or sudoku). It looked intriguing, thumbed through one of the books, and bought it.
One week after buying it, I'm 10% of the way through the book of 100 puzzles.
What is su doku? It's like a crossword puzzle with numbers. It starts with a 9x9 grid. Each of the digits 1-9 are used one in each row, once in each column, and once in every 3x3 sub-block. Some numbers are filled in. Your job is to fill in the rest of the puzzle. Some are easy. Some are difficult. And some are outright fiendish.
You don't have to be a math whiz to work on these puzzles. There is no addition involved, nor do the rows or columns have to add up to a certain value, like the famed "magic square". (Trivia: The sum of the numbers 1 through 9 is 45.)
