I've often mentioned the problem I have with line noise and drop-carriers. I think I've pinpointed it down to my use of Eudora. Specifically, the POP3 protocol.

In the past few weeks, I've read my LJ first (using IE 6). I rarely get dropped, if ever. Then when I fire up Eudora and start downloading email, that's when the trouble begins. I sometimes get "connection closed by foreign host" or "connection refused". Several seconds later, I get dropped. Apparentely the server tells my computer to shut up and never gets back to it.

Would this go away if I went to DSL? And what if I switched protocols to IMAP?
