Sheesh!

Yesterday, I though about getting a couple more of those flash-memory drives. They've become quite the handy gizmo. Who'd have known ten years ago that these would catch on like wildfire?

Ten years ago. Seems like such a long time, doesn't it?. )

I was looking for a Lexar Memory Stick, not Pro or MagicGate, 128Mb x2 (it uses a DIP switch to switch between 2 128 Mb banks). My Sony digital camera -- and my Lexar JumpDrive Trio -- uses memory sticks without the Pro, Duo, or MagicGate. dealsea.com doesn't list any. One local store out of four I looked has them in stock.

I was also looking for two Lexar JumpDrive Sport drives; one 128 Mb and one 512 Mb. One store had a 128Mb drive on clearance for just under $20. I didn't find the 512 Mb one, but I can wait for it.

I also found a SanDisk 512 Mb SD card for a reasonable price -- $40 -- and had a $10 rebate. (I love rebates.)

Media formats are often obsolete once they hit the shelves or soon after. In about a year -- or 18 months, according to Moore's Law -- a device with double the capacity will be available for the same price. And in 36 months, it is obsolete and can't be found except for surplus retailers and EBay.

Sheesh.
