I own a black cat. His name is Merlin. (I should post pictures of him here.) I adopted him 7 years ago. He's a big boy -- 18 pounds at his last vet visit. He's the "bouncer" at the Line of Death Bar & Grill.

Some of the things he does are quite comical.

- He "helps" me go to the toilet. While I'm taking care of business, he comes up to me and rubs his face against my leg.
- He lets me know when his food dish is empty.
- He has an aversion to dark-colored clothing, especially socks and slippers. If he sees one on the floor, he'll cautiously avoid it or paw at it. I've seen him accidentally catch it with one of his claws, and he lept up and backward. R and I call that trick "the evil slipper monster".

Is it bad luck if he crosses my path? Only if I trip over him or step on him.

Do you own a black cat? Do you have any humorous stories to share?

We do, and she's one of the most neurotic cats I've ever had. She probably spooks herself more than anyone she might come across, and if she tries chewing up one of my books again she's going to find out just how much bad luck she's in for. :)

Twist tie from bread bag: fun!

Humongous super-crinkly see-through garbage bag that slides very nicely on hardwood floor if you take a running jump at it: fun!!

Twist tie IN the bag: THE BEST TOY EVER!!

The Toronto Humane Society won't let you adopt a black cat in the weeks leading up to Halloween. Seems some people only want them for a costume, or in a nastier way.

there are a lot of stupid sick people out there. Keep Merlin in tonight

We did, until a few weeks ago. We're actively looking for a cat, and "black" is high on our list of preferred sorts. (Mostly I've been looking at cats being given away on Craigslist, but we may go to a shelter to rescue a cat if the right one doesn't come along relatively soon.)

We have two black and whites, two all black, and two that are black with a small tuff of white hair on their chests. The last two are kittens from the same litter. The only way we can tell them apart is that one is super affectionate and the other is a bit more aloof.

That's not all of them, btw. :-)

I could write a book of amusing cat stories. ;->

I had a black cat, a small 6# female, named Zues for the way she thundered through the house. She was generally a good natured cat and never did things to "get even" with you.

We had my cousin and his wife over and my cousin tormented the cat. He passed out from either lack of sleep or too much drink in a reclining chair. His mouth was wide open. She took a shit in his mouth. He woke right up gasping and spitting.

Too gross and too funny for words. That cat never did anything like that again. My cousin never tormented any of my cats.

My mom had one female named Patunia who loved to scold anyone who was yelling in anger. She also had a true hatred for rolled up newspaper, whenever she saw some she would tear it to shreds growling the whole time.

Anything made with yarn was fair game in he oppinion. It was not uncommon for us to hear the "thunk, thunk, thunk," of my dolly's heads hitting the stairs as she carried them down in their knitted baby buntings.
