Adventures in co-sleeping.....

Last week, at my wife's request, we bought a co-sleeper. A co-sleeper (or cosleeper) is like a crib that attaches to the side of a regular bed, so that parents and baby can sleep together without the risk of baby getting squashed by parents turning in their sleep. We bought one because Maria outgrew her bassinet, and Rebecca (my wife, aka Mommy) wasn't ready for Maria to sleep all alone in the baby's room upstairs.
The particular one we bought is made by Arm's Reach, and is available through the Baby Center web site. Assembly is similar to that of a Graco Pack-n-Play portable playpen/bassinet, but one side can be lowered to form a co-sleeper. The weight capacity is 30 pounds, which is twice the weight capacty of the bassinet.
Last weekend, we ordered the co-sleeper to take advantage of a sale (and free shipping). A few days later, it arrived. Saturday night, I moved the bassinet out of the way, assembled the co-sleeper.....and set Maria in it. Like her parents, she's not comfortable sleeping in a strange bed the first night, and she kept my wife up for most of the night.
Sunday morning, I let her sleep in while I took my daughter out of the room and watched Toy Story with her. Last night, I think Maria slept a little better, since she was used to the bed by then.
I think all of us are getting used to the co-sleeper. However, I will have to make an effort to keep the cats out of it, or at least shoo them out when it's time for Maria to go to bed -- the cats seem to think we bought it for them!
