The Vatican has issued a set of guidelines for motorists.

Ok, I agree with the guidelines -- some of them make a lot of sense -- but to me, it's yet another example of the Holy See trying to dictate how we think and act and how to live my life. That's one of the reasons why I left the church -- because I'm not anyone's puppet.

(On a lighter note, I saw a picture captioned "How to tell if a Catholic is driving too fast". It had a rosary or crucifix hanging on a rear-view mirror, and the Christ figure is hanging on for dear life. The picture is on this page, along with some other religious humor.)

HA! They forgot:
Thou shalt not flip the jerk who cut you off the bird
and
Thou shalt not flash the truck drivers

If you were on a tour and at the first stop, the bus driver was praying on the rosary that the bus would arrive safely at the last stop, would you *really* get onboard?

I hear this on the news yesterday. It boggled my mind, I thought, "why do catholics need reminding to follow the law" Perhaps not the most charitable thought, but it went through my head. Then I just thought it was just kind of sad.

I don't think Catholics specifically need any more reminding to be reasonable drivers than anyone else. But there is certainly a lot of bad behavior that's become ordinary practice. And to some extent, people drive badly because people around them drive badly, so if some of them become more reasonable, it can potentially spread.

Unfortunately, having a larger minority strictly following *all* the laws would make things worse, not better, because there are a few laws that are dumb. When all the other cars on the busy freeway are going 70, you should be going 70 too even if the posted speed limit is 55.

Thing is, most of the "commandments" are just following the law. I have to agree with keeping up with traffic though. Especially when the person in question is in the middle lane.
