.....has to be the one that Buffalo's WKBW-TV used for their "Eyewitness News" program from the 1970s up until a few years ago. It's dramatic, attention-grabbing, and recognizable. Just the qualities a TV theme must have for the few seconds it's played.

Some searching on Google (while waiting for my Java code to build) yielded some trivia:

1) The theme was composed by the late Al Ham and is called "Move Closer To Your World". It even has lyrics for the bridge section, which WKBW never aired.
2) The theme was used in several other TV markets and stations, most notably, WPVI-TV (Channel 6, ABC) in Philadelphia, PA for their "Action News 6" new program.
3) An online version is available for download at Steve Cichon's staffannouncer.com. (I've discovered other versions in RealAudio format, but I havent't auditioned them yet.)
4) There's even a ringtone available for downloading! It's available from the WPVI website.

I even found some trivia I didn't know about an on-air personality I used to watch when I was younger. Rocketship 7's Dave Thomas -- no, not the guy from Wendy's -- is the father of actor David Boreanaz, best known as "Angel" on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and the current lead on Bones.

What TV news themes do you remember? What city and station are they from?

Suddenly I remember the music used for coverage of the Apollo flights. I remember one network had this really neat animation based on the Apollo 15 patch--and the music that played behind it was great. It's just earwormed me.
