Went to Columbus today to fill out my starting paperwork for $EMPLOYER. I still don't have an official start date, as the manager at $NEW_CLIENT is on vacation this week. I'm guessing I start either next week or the week after. A tentative date was listed; if it changes, they'll write in the new date and I'll initial it.

I also had to take the pee test, which I did after filling out the paperwork.

Then I went looking at apartments. I stopped at the complex where [livejournal.com profile] athenawindsong lives, and filled out an application. As I took the walk-through of a unit, I didn't quite visualize myself living there, but the location is nice, even though it is on the pricey side of town (Dublin/Hilliard). They said they should have a unit ready for me around the middle of September. There's a club house there, so there may be a housefilk in the distant future.

Then came the obligatory pilgrimage to Micro Center. I found some more cheap O'Reilly pocket reference books and some lanyards I'll use for my Mini-Maglite flashlights. It's going to be dangerous having them a short 5-minute drive away from me. I love their selection, and their service is great. (Okay, they mostly leave me alone to shop, which is how I prefer it.)

Had lunch at the Panda Inn. I had the General Tso's chicken. Nice and spicy, and it kept me full all afternoon. I then fed the car and headed back home.

Other than schlepping stuff, I'm going to have to thinking about things like finding new support people -- a new doctor, a new dentist, a new veterinarian, and a new insurance agent.

And now I wait for the start date. And think about what I'll be taking with me the first few trips.

There are a couple of rent-by-the-week efficiencies on the west side of Columbus, not far from 70 and 270. They might make sense until you find or get into the apartment you want, or until you're sure that the job works out - that you like it and they like you.

My sister and brother-in-law lived in an apartment on the West side while he went to law school. It was fairly cheap - no clubhouse that I know of, and a coin-op laundry somewhere on the premises. I lived in two west Columbus apartments, one in Dublin and one in Hilliard. The one in Dublin was very nice, had a pool. It was also very pricey for the space. The one in Hilliard was $10 more a month, but included three times the space, no pool, but did have covered parking. The tenants were also more approachable.
