Who has the best burger?

In the last couple months, two hamburger places -- Five Guys and Smashburger -- opened near me. I've since visited both. I would have to say that Smashburger has the edge for me. I like their Smashfries, seasoned with rosemary and olive oil. And I can select my cheese (I prefer Pepper Jack).

Some folks I know aren't crazy about the name. It comes from how they cook their burgers -- they smash 'em on the grill.

I don't think I'll go back to McDonald's, unless I'm with my daughter.

I do love me some Five Guys. Don't think we have the other chain here in GA.

There's also one here in Rockville. Very convenient to the Conterpoint hotel, in fact.

There's a Five Guys in the general vicinity of the hotel too.

Never had Smashburgers (there are none around here), but I'd probably avoid them because that method of cooking kills burgers deader than Raid.

Five Guys, on the other hand, has awesome burgers and great fries. (I love the peanut-oil frying.) Several diners around here also have great burgers. Shake Shack, which has a great reputation, is IMO only somewhat above average, and not worth waiting on line for at least 45 minutes.

I agree with filkerdave, though: I cook burgers better than any chain.
