This was the weekend of R's 20-year high school reunion in Columbus, and The Girl's 2nd birthday party.

Friday was The Girl's birthday. We brought in mini-muffins and toys for the kids in her day care class. We also packed for a weekend trip to Columbus. R got a half-day off so we could get an early start. Packed the car and left around 5. Picked up The Girl at day care. Arrived at S & C's place around 7:00. Hung out at their place and caught up on each other's lives. C has a new job! The Girl got to enjoy one of her birthday gifts -- the Baby DaVinci DVD. Made a couple of Kroger runs to get supplies for the weekend.

Saturday we had breakfast while The Girl got to watch her Wiggles and Jojo's Circus.

Some more of C's house guests arrived -- V from Dayton, and A & N. They were going to spend Saturday night at the house as well. They were also going to catch a production of Shakespeare in the Park at Schiller Park in Columbus, and babysit The Girl while we went off to the reunion. (C is also active in the local arts community.)

In the afternoon, we headed out to a horse farm in Westerville. This was the family event of the reunion weekend; we skipped the Friday night mixer. The Girl was too scared to ride any of the horses (just as well; we were short on cash), and I chose not to take a balloon ride (it was tethered so it only went up about 20 feet and back down again). We didn't stay very long because R didn't recognize many of the people there. Drove to Newark for lunch and back (Route 16), and then to Canal Winchester and back (US 33), as The Girl conked out in the car and needed her afternoon nap.

Returned to S & C's place to get changed for the formal dinner-dance. Transferred the car seat to C's car, and gave her the kid harness. The dinner-dance was held at COSI, in one of the empty 2nd floor galleries. The buffet was decent, but it was served on plastic plates and utensils. R hung out with a few of the folks she knew from high school -- Gary & Peggy, and Dan. We had Teresa & Daryl join us at our table. As with many high school reunions, the same old cliques formed. I tried to be sociable and outgoing, since I knew almost no one there. After dinner, some of the folks got on the dance floor, and a few tried to breakdance. We left around 11:15pm.

C said The Girl had fun and was fairly well-behaved at the production.

Sunday morning was spent eating breakfast, chatting, and watching Finding Nemo. After the other house guests left for home, we got ready, picked up the cake and party food, and headed to R's aunt Fran's condo for the family birthday party. R's aunt Carol was there, along with her long-term boyfriend Bob, and R's grandparents. Our friends A & S came up from Cincinnati. The adults enjoyed a chicken dinner. The Girl gots lots of loot, including a wagon, some books, more Baby Einstein DVDs, and three noise-making phones. (Oy!) And she got to enjoy her birthday cake -- or to be more precise, the icing. After the party, we went to a local pond and fed bread to some ducks, and played with a neighbor's dogs.

We returned to C's house and packed up. We left around 8:00pm, stopped at DQ for a quick bite, and arrived home at around 9:30pm.
