Woodwind and brass players in filk?

I'm trying to compile a list of all the woodwind and brass players curently active in filkdom. I know there are some out there who play band instruments, and there's more to filking than guitars. Maybe someday, we can all get together and play something together, like a woodwind or brass choir. Or just jam and have fun.

Here are the players I know about, broken out by instrument and size variants. If I'm missing someone, post a reply to this thread.

Addendum: I know Joe Ellis plays saxophone, but I don't know if it's alto or tenor. (Shouldn't matter that much; the fingering's the same.)

I used to play alto sax and bass clarinet. I still play recorder and 6-hole bamboo flute (although I don't usually bring them to cons).

I still own the alto sax.

Robin Holly and tigerbright play flute.

In the UK, Martin GK plays alto sax; Andy GK plays flute, Minstrel plays drums, vaurien plays bassoon, and Tim Walker (stevieannie's other half) plays just about everything -- I've seen him play trumpet and drums at a filkcon).

surrdave is a fine, fine trumpet player, and also plays a variety of other instruments.

Kristoph Klover (CA filker) plays oboe.

Margaret Davis (another CA filker) plays flute.

Harold Groot (yet another CA filker) can also play sousaphone and tuba. We just have to get him one. ;-)

Joe Ellis plays just about everything. I've seen and heard him play saxophone and sousaphone, the latter with the horn over my head (YEOOOWW!).

Ed *has played* probably all of them and is quite a fast study when necessary/desired but I'm not sure which he's strongest on. I find it apalling how quickly and competently he can play pretty much any instrument.

Another filker who plays damned near everything is vaurien - ah yes, I see you have him as basoon but he plays a huge variety of instruments. You had to hear he and Ed doing the musician's equivalent of benevolent guy type antler bashing. Being terribly cool as they casually say "Trumpet?" "yep." "euphonium?" "a bit, in college" "rackett?" "sure!"... sigh. It's terrible that he lives so far away darn it. :-)

I play recorder competently enough to consider one of my instruments.
I have played panpipes but don't consider myself really very good on them just "able to make pleasant noise".

Oh and yes - Ed plays (or at least *can play* )tuba. :-)

Was I there for that? I think I vaguely remember him with a sousaphone -- and seeing your startled look when he played a note with your head near the bell.

Oooh, you guys have a wind controller? fuzzyvanman is thinking about getting one of those for his keyboard for me to use. My instrument is the flute; do you know how different/similar the embrochure for the wind controller is to flute?

I play flute; I'm terribly out of practice and have never played for filk. Maybe one day, though. I've considered it.

Joe and I have done "Starlight and Sousaphone" twice in public: Once at ConChord, and once at OVFF. I forget which con he did that at.

I don't know. I do know it has two settings - wind controlled and not. You can use it so that it plays based on embouchure and is sensative to your breath or so that it plays more like a - hmm - recorder? They're breath sensitive but you know what I mean? Ed could tell you more about it cause he's played it more than I. It's really nifty and if we *ever* have time to start giggin professionally again I'm going to try to become more proficient on it.
