Okay, Level 42 sounds so familiar, I guess I'd have to actually hear them, so many of the bands from that time sound the same!

The song you probably remember them by is "Something About You". It was pretty much their only hit, which is a pity because they're a really good band. I guess Jim is one of the other six people who actually bought their albums.

Heh. Actually, an old friend from college had this in her plan file. And I heard it on the local "The Wave" station....when it existed as such.

Now to find an MP3 of the song.....

Totally depressing

this song sounds totally depressing. I don't know the band, which doesn't say much since I mostly listen to alternative rock and Celtic. I imagine this is some sweety sung song with acoustic guitars.

As autographedcat sort of mentioned, Level 42 was a one-hit wonder here in the States in the '80s. Their "one hit" here was "Something About You".

"Silence" is one of those both sad and hopeful songs for me -- the verses are sad; the chorus (which begins with "Too many people / Suffer in silence" and ends with "Love will always come your way") is the hopeful part.

In a way, it reflects some personal drama I've been going through in the past week, and is well on its way to being resolved.

Found the tape that had the first 2:20 of the song (before I hit the end of the tape). No guitars. Bass, Rhodes electric piano, synth, drums, and vocal (male). Made it into an MP3 file.
