A few days ago, I asked a question about screensaver passwords in KDE.

The short answer: I wasn't using the right password.

Soon after [livejournal.com profile] bikergeek mentioned Ctrl-Alt-F1 to shell out of the screensaver, I tried it to log in to my regular-user account, and none of the passwords I was using seemed to work. (Cue the lightbulb.) So I logged in as root, ran passwd on my regular-user account (after checking the man page), rebooted, logged in as regular-user, and tried it out. It's working now, now that I have the right password. Thanks!

This is why I'd like a KDE tutorial in book form. The docs at docs.kde.org are OK, but it's nice to have a hardcopy manual to leaf through, instead of hunting and punting. Is there a summary of all the keyboard shortcuts somewhere?

Now if I can only figure out how to get rid of the rust-lime stain at the bottom of my toilet bowl......

Are you after a per-application list of shortcuts, or global ones? The easiest place to find a list of global ones is actually the global shortcuts kcontrol module. One of the problems of documenting them is that there are several entire "schemes" based on "do you want them like windows", or "do you want them like a mac" or "do you want to use four modifier keys including the win key" or well, several other things, and some of the distributions make different choices about defaults.

That said, we certainly should cover the defaults as chosen by KDE, and the User Guide is a great place to do that. I'll put it on my (ever too long) TODO.

As far as printed material goes, the best we can offer currently is PDF versions of the docs that you can print yourself. The aim is that the User Guide itself is the only one you'll ever need to print, but the UG is fairly new, and to be honest that goal is a ways off.

And flat cola oddly enough, does as good a job as most commercial cleaners at the lime stains on porcelain, although I'm not sure it'll help with the rust. Just pour a can in there before you go to work, and let it sit all day, and scrub when you get home. YMMV of course, but it's worked for me pretty well in the past.
