I heard the news that Punxsatawny Phil did not see her shadow today. That means an early spring, according to the folklore.

I haven't heard if Buckeye Chuck saw his shadow or not.

I do know that it's cold and snowy today here, and the roads were a little slippery.

Since I don't like to repeat myself on LJ if I can help it, here's an entry I wrote about groundhogs two years ago. The Daughter has since "inherited" the plush groundhog.

BTW, to answer your question from two years ago, apparently it's common knowledge in Punxy, PA that "Phil" is actually "Phyllis". I've also heard that this year not only saw a new handler, but a new Phil. I can't help but wonder if those two incidents are related.

Groundhog sees shadow: six more weeks of winter
Groundhog doesn't see shadow: Just a month and a half of winter left
Woodchuck sees shadow: Six more weeks until spring
Woodchuck doesn't see shadow: Just a month and a half until spring

Maybe I'll celebrate Ground Hog Day with a frozen pepperoni pizza.

I suppose I could have tacos or sloppy joes with ground chuck...

I have some good ground chuck recepies...none of them involve wood. Some involve chips....

Somehow I don't think that substituting ground 'chuck for ground chuck in the taco recipe is really a good idea.

How will you know unless you try?

Deer works, anyway....

Well, the thing is that when I picture ground woodchuck, I picture grinding the whole thing, cause they're awful small to butcher -- and that just seems like a really bad idea.

Well see, that's why you need a bunch. Not like they're endangered.

Ugh, Okay, I'm sorry, I quit. I just hit my gross factor. It's a lot lower than pre-pregnancy levels. Someone else can play my game if they want.
