The Oscars.....
Feb. 26th, 2007 12:17 pmI usually don't watch the Academy Awards presentation. For
mariasmom, it's her Super Bowl, so she watches it. I figure I can usually read the recap the following morning.
Plus I have my own beef with the Academy. The Academy seems to be focused on elevating the cinematic ahhht (say it with your nose in the air) and eschews "fun" movies (which includes most of the films in the SF/fantasy genre). Besides, a hockey game was on, and so was Van Helsing on TBS.
I entered
doeadear's annual Oscar Pool and got 6 out of 15 right. Not bad for someone who doesn't slavishly follow the industry.
[Updated 12:30 EST] I am happy that Scorsese *finally* won an Oscar, after all these years.
Time for some shout-outs: Happy belated birthday to
quadrivium and
ethansmom and
redaxe! And a happy birthday to
rms_butterfly!

Date: 2007-02-26 05:54 pm (UTC)There were two races I had some interest in this year. I was pulling for Jennifer Hudson for Best Supporting actress as she is a newcomer and a Chicago girl. I really do want to see Dream Girls some day as I have a strong interest in the history of Rock and Roll. But I'm going to have to wait 'till I can rent it.
I also was curious about the Best Actress category. My first thought upon seeing the slate of nominees was "I'm glad I don't have to vote." Any one of them would easily deserve the Oscar.
