In my never-ending quest to sample new and unusual soft drinks, I came across two new products by the Coca-Cola Company.

The first is Coca-Cola Zero. I believe this is Coke's way of appeasing those who like the idea of Diet Coke but can't stand the bitter taste. It may also be Coke's way of competing with Pepsi One, as if zero is better than one. It tastes very sweet, almost as sweet as real Coke. But the ingredients label shows that the sweeteners used are the evil aspartame and acesulfame potassium.

The second is Diet Coke Plus. This is Diet Coke with added vitamins and minerals. Upon closer examination of the label, it shows the presence of some of the B-complex vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, B12) and zinc. But aren't B-complex vitamins soluble in water? I didn't notice any difference in taste. But if I wanted a drink with B-complex vitamins, I'd reach for a beer. (But not during working hours.)

I think I'll stick to my Diet Coke with Splenda.
