Untax and spend yet again......

There's talk about the Government giving every taxpaying American a check for $800 in order to stimulate the economy. My reckoning is that in most cases, the money will be used to pay off debt -- credit cards, home equity loans, etc. -- instead of making new purchases.
On an unrelated note, I don't think Dr. Phil should have blabbed about Britney's condition. Just because one is a celebrity doesn't mean they lose their right to privacy.

Second, an MH professional at any level is not supposed to talk about their clients with anyone outside of their treatment team without express consent. So, Dr. Phil was violating the spirit if not the letter of patient confidentiality. Of course, this is Dr. Phil we're talking about. Someone needs to shrink his swollen head.

Date: 2008-01-18 09:53 pm (UTC)Frankly, I agree. But my inner cynic wonders: since, due to sanctions for unethical behaviour, Dr. Phil McGraw is no longer licensed to practice psychology and therefore cannot technically *have* patients, why would he ever consider himself in any way bound by HIPAA or Dr/Patient confidentiality?

Date: 2008-01-19 06:43 am (UTC)I feel terrible for her children. This isn't something that they'll never hear about as they grow up. I am glad that the judge removed her visitation for the time being...maybe she'll care enough when she crashes to get help.
What amazes me, too, is that she is hanging around with a Paparazzo and he seems to be enabling all of her bizarre excursions and escorting her through all of her whims. Sound like Howard Stern enough for ya? Wait, didn't a photographer father Anna Nicole's baby?
It's tragic that she's sick, but as an adult and mom I believe she has an obligation to do everything she can to be the most stable she can get for their sake as well as hers.
ARe you sorry I asked? Isn't it pathetic that I know?

Date: 2008-01-19 06:54 am (UTC)The kids - once they are old enough to understand what's going on - will roll with it. Kids are resilient little creatures and by that time they will be stabilized with or without her.
I do blame the "yes" people (aka enablers) that surround her as well as her family for not doing an intervention before this got so out of hand. This woman is spinning out of control and there is no one who seems to be willing to put on the breaks. It's a good thing the judge is at least level headed enough to see this.
Thanks for updating me.

Date: 2008-01-19 05:45 am (UTC)As far as Dr. Phil goes, he has even stated on the news today that his blabbing was a bad idea on his part. It was immoral and unethical a fact that he has to and sais he does own up to.
I feel sorry for Britney mental melt downs are hard to live through, having it all in the public eye and being excerbated by the photo-nazi's has to be even harder to live through. On the other hand, I'm glad her kids are out of her custody. While i believe that parents should both have equal access to children, I don't believe that kids should be expossed to her kind of turmoil, nor should they be so indangered as they seem to be whenever they are with her.
I hope she doesn't have any more kids untill she's got her life back on track.

Date: 2008-01-23 04:54 pm (UTC)As for Dr. Phil... He's a Jerry Springer in disguise. But then most anything aligned with Oprah is self serving and sensationalistic. I read that Oprah can fire Dr. Phil anytime since she owns his show and determines if and when he is on air. She should have fired his ass long ago and why she's waiting to do so now... must be money money money. But then I'm, also, of the opinion that Oprah's show can disappear.
