So I watched the third debate.....

Well, sort of. I had it on and listened while I cleaned my kitchen floor. (It was quite dirty and needed at least an hour to clean, even with a steam cleaner.) Sen. McCain had the gloves off and he was no-holds-barred that night. Sen. Obama just took it all in stride.
Some of the things I heard -- or heard about -- that still bother me, three days after the debate:
1) At no time during the debate did McCain discuss the middle class, or even say the words "middle class". I know, that's not the GOP constituency. But it's a significant part of the country.
2) When referring to people who supported abortion rights, McCain used the label "pro-abortion". Excuse me? The accepted label is "pro-choice". Ask any card-carrying member of NARAL if they are pro-abortion, and I'd wager that most will vehemently tell you they're not.
As for the GOP commercials that have been airing recently -- the ones that don't feature McCain saying "I approved this message" -- I think they should change their tagline to "The Republican National Committee is responsible for the flinging of this piece of elephant dung." I remember one senator from Illinois who had no executive experience. His name was Abraham Lincoln.

Every woman that is forced to stop an ectopic pregnancy could be criminalized simply because it DOES stop a beating heart - but if allowed to continue there is untellable circumstance - at the very least impaired fertility, at worst maternal AND fetal death. Then there are those precious babies that simply WILL NOT survive birth (anencephaly for example) what about those poor mothers that agonize over that decision - it woudl criminalize that as well.
These right wing extremist would outlaw abortion even in cases of rape or incest. Sorry I wont' tell my daughter that she MUST carry a child that is the result of a criminal hate filled act. Not no way, not no how. Yes, ther is always emergency contraception but most rape goes unreported sadly so that would screw a lot of women.
I say this as a woman, as a miscarriage survivor, as a Mother to two beautiful daughters and expecting another daughter. I WILL NOT SEE THEIR CHOICE STOLEN.
Yes, it's a hotbutton for me!

Date: 2008-10-20 07:59 pm (UTC)This is why I never discussed politics at work -- I'd get into arguments with my co-workers, and it would end by agreeing to disagree.
I grew up in a Democratic household. Dad was a member of the UAW, so I got to hear a lot from the labor point of view, and not from the big-business point of view. Those views became my views, even though I lean more toward the libertarian point of view: social liberal, fiscal conservative.
To be honest, both the Democratic and Republican parties have become corrupt and controlled by special-interest groups. I fear and distrust the neoconservatives more than the rabid liberals. If we had a viable third party, I think I'd vote for them.
